Headaches and Migraines

Headaches

Migraines, Tension headaches, Cervicogenic headaches, Exertional headaches

Headaches are one of those symptoms that can be caused by just about anything. Hormones, chemicals, deficiencies, allergies, tumors, strokes,  withdrawals, and of course stress and mechanical causes.

In fact, mechanical causes like tight muscles, stiff joints, and strained postures are the MOST LIKELY cause of any given headache.  Of course, it is important to rule out more sinister causes of a headache.

Many migraine sufferers find significant relief with occasional manual therapy such as joint and soft tissue manipulation.  It’s absolute worth a shot if you know the crippling feeling of a migraine.

Tension and cervicogenic headaches are of the same variety.  These headaches are generated by joint dysfunction in the neck and/or upper back as well as tight and stiff muscles.  Trigger points in muscles of the upper back and neck can create headaches symptoms.  Joint and soft tissue manipulation can provide significant relief.  These headaches are often driven by postural issues, stress, dysfunctional breathing mechanics. Much can be done to guide self-treatment to manage these underlying dysfunctions.
